14er Season Approaching

LongsPeakKeyhole2Wow, I look forward to the summer so much in Colorado.  Mostly because of the wonderful sunny days, but this is just half of it.  It is the opportunity to climb mountains against.  There are 56 fourteeners in Colorado and it is my goal to climb all of them.  I am on number 22 now.  It is a huge exciting time to stand on these peaks and look down at the world.  It is a sense of accomplishment to summit.  Often these trips are hard and long.  We hike on average 10 miles per time, and this year it will probably be more like 12 miles.  You will go up over 5000 vertical feet.  The air is thin, and you have to be strong to make it.  There are some really difficult sections too, in which, if you mess up, you die.  This is hard, but feels great to overcome the fear and be successful.  Once you start this hobby, there are those who hate it, and those who love it.  The first summit I remember feeling that I was born for this.  Also, it is fun to bond with the boys on these trips.  I have numerous people that I hike with, and everytime we grow closer together.  You camp out in the middle of no where, you push yourself, you challenge yourself, and you do it with others.  This creates true community.  It seems that I am checking out 14ers.com everyday now, dreaming of the peaks that I will summit.  You got to love summer in Colorado.
