Musings on Spiritual Matters

A Big Dose of Humility

http://i.zdnet.com/blogs/kindle_dx_hands.jpgIt was a snowy Wednesday night in Colorado.  The midweek Bible study hour was canceled because of the frightful weather, but this did not stop the company from coming.  There were three young men, and two of the elders that entered through my front door to provide a years worth of humility.

Maybe you have had one of those visits before.  One of those visits where the entire year is going to be different because of the events of one night.

I guest it could not wait for another time.  The party of five bravely went through terrible conditions to deliver the humility.  When the humility was delivered, I did not know what to say, I never do.  I just sat there, unsure of the reactions.  I was completely speechless.

I opened the card, read the notes, and noticed a large stack of papers.  I opened the papers, and realized that this was the message of humility.  The congregation, with full support of the eldership purchased me a Kindle DX for Christmas.  This was a huge surprise.  What a nice gift of love.  I could not believe it.  I was truly humbled by the extravagant demonstration of appreciation.  It is really humbling to work with such a great group of elders.  Elders that go beyond the call of duty to love and support the minister.  I am so excited about this great gift.  But what I am most excited about is the fact that I have the blessing of working with one of the finest, fastest growing, loving, and appreciative congregations in all of the world.  There is a great sense of humility in knowing that you do not deserve to be with such a great church, but you are so thankful to be there.
