Adopted Business for the Missional Teen Class

The teens are learning about missional theology for the Wednesday Night class for the summer.  But part of this class is practicing what we learned.  We have learned about being missional, incarnational, and tabernacle.  All of these words mean to some level “to create a presence.”  This is what the teens were trying to accomplish on July 13th, as we when downtown Castle Rock to discover a business that we could adopt.  We looked for various businesses, and we landed on Castle Pines Florist.  The problem was that we did not know if the owner would be receptive.  So this morning, July 14th, I made first contact with the owner.  Her name is Kristin Clifford.  She was a little overwhelmed at first, but God was in this process.  As I was explaining to her what being “adopted” meant, a lady came out of the back who I knew from my interactions in the community.  I said hello, and the woman told the owner that “I was an excellent pastor.”  This made the process go even better.  I told the owner that we want to advertise her store within the congregation, and we want to encourage the members to use this business for any flower needs.  I also told her that we wanted to do a project that would be beneficial for her business in some way.  You could tell that she was taken aback by this kindness.  She said at first “I did not know what was going on.”  I guess this is normal as I walked in and said “I am here today to bless you.”  But after a good conversation, she was really happy that we are going to do this for her store.

The teens have been learning about the missional church and putting it into practice.  We were praying that God would lead us to a business that we could help, and God answered our prayers in a powerful way.  Only time will tell about the impact that this missional work will produce.  God is certainly leading this mission, and the teens are certainly participating in this process of being a tabernacle in Castle Rock.
