Bible Class on “Symbolism in the Forth Gospel”
I teach a Bible class every Wednesday night at church. Most preachers do. I just finished up a class on Spiritual warfare, and developed a ton of Powerpoints on this topic. I used two major texts for this class. If there are any preachers that are looking for a class on this topic, I would be happy to email them the powerpoints and tell them of the resource material in order for them to lecture deeper. As we are finishing this class, I was challenged by a member to take us deeper into the word of God. So I gave this some thought, and choose do teach a class on “Symbolism in the Forth Gospel.” Yea, the title even seems deep. Once again, I am putting together powerpoints and resource material for this class. The class will be taught at a normal level, but I am sending out information for the class to read in preparation of the class. The sent out material will be challenging for the average member. The class will be awesome for the average member. Typically, we do historical-literary style classes in our churches, but this class will use the classic allegory methodology in order to understand the “spiritual aspect” of John’s Gospel. There are clues, there are parallels, there are double meanings, and there are stories that explain stories. We will look at the major themes of light and water. But we will do some interpretative work on the coupling of Nicodemus and the Woman at the well. Ever realize that these are mirror images of one another? I am excited about this up and coming class. Hopefully, people will walk out from the each week stating, “I never knew that” or even better, “This truly was the Son of God.”
