Bloggers I Would Like to Talk To

bear_bryantThis post is about certain bloggers that I would enjoy having a conversation with.  Some of these guys I have meet and others I know just thought church connection and the internet.  All of these bloggers are on my blog list on the side of this page.  Of course I would like to talk with everyone on there, but these are some of the highlights.  Some of these guys specialize in some areas, and these are the areas that I would like to chat with them about.  If I had a issue or a concern, these are the people I would like to listen to in these areas.

If I was needing to talk about marriage and fatherhood.  There is no better blog on marriage and family life than Trey Morgan’s.  He always deals with these elements (even sex) on his blog.  His posts is good and read quickly, and his lists are the best.  If I needed advice on being a man of God, I am going to sit down with him for coffee.

If I was needing to talk about theology and the restoration movement.  Bobby Valentine is the expert in these areas.  He has such a large understand of the restoration movement and the development of theology within this movement.  He has send me numerous articles in the past, and has really challenged me in  area.  I would love to sit down and hear him lecture on this area.

If I was needing to talk about church functioning and leadership.  There are two guys that I love in this field Jerrie Barber and Tim Spivey.  Both of these guys understand systems theory well and the functioning of leadership.  I got to hear Tim speak on this a while back, and it was great.  He understands and has the gift of leadership.  Jerrie has been through it all, and he is probably the best older preacher to talk with for any younger preacher.

If I was needing to talk about relationships and friendships.  I have never meet John Dobbs, but this guy just seems to be the ultimate friend guy.  He seems like he is an encourager to everyone in the church.

If I was needing to talk about truth.  Phil Sander’s is the best in this area.  He has really helped me think through issues.  I love his perspective on treating people, and he is someone that I highly respect because he stands for truth without being harsh.  If I am confused, he is who I call.

If I was needing to talk about spiritual formation.  He is new to the list, but not a new person in my life.  I have known Mark for a while.  He is an expert in spiritual formation as he is writing his dissertation on this topic.  He knows of all the material and the thought behind these ideas.  If I was struggling in this area or just needed help, I would go to starbucks with him.

If I was needing to talk about balance.  I would call Andrew Phillips.  I love this guy because he really is a balanced perspective in the church.  He is aware of the issues, but he never sells out the past, he is respectful of all positions.  He is always a constant reminder of not disrespecting the generation before us while not giving up on the present generation.  I really feel that he is one of the top young preachers in the church.

If I was needing to talk about missional.  I would go see Collin Packer.  Fortunately he is up the road from me and we talk about this stuff on the time as we meet with Hobby to discuss this area of ministry.  This guy always makes me think.  His latest thought was, “sometimes culture has led the church.”  No, that cannot be true, but yes it is, culture accepted African Americans before the church did.  Sad, but true.

If I was needing to talk about life.  I would call Mitchell.  We worked together for a few years, and I still love talking with my friend.  We talk church, football, mostly everything.  I miss him.

There are more guys I would mention on here, but hey it would be too long.  But thank you to all of the guys mentioned or not that influence and help me in ministry.

Wow…thanks Matthew! I definitely would love to talk with you sometime over coffee or whatever. You have a great blog … I especially love your book reviews… except the chess ones. ;)

Just think… me and Phil Sanders in the same blogpost. The brotherhood might implode! lol I’m ribbin’ Phil… known him a long time … and the church he served in TN was one of many that served well in the aftermath of Katrina.

    Thanks again Matthew!
