Musings on Spiritual Matters

Crosby or Ovechkin Preacher

In the NHL, there is a constant debate over who is the better player.  Some argue for Ovechkin and others insist on Crosby.  This is a good debate, people who point to Ovechkin mention his trophy collection.  Ovechkin has won player of the year and the Rocket Richard trophy numerous years.  Those who point to Crosby will mention his Stanley Cup and now his Olympic Gold.

If Ovechkin was your preacher, he would be all about himself.  He would be into growing the church for his reputation only.  He would be an amazing preacher, but would be narcissistic.  His sermons would be the best, with flash and flare.  But unless you were all about making Ovechkin look good, he would move on to another congregation quickly.  It would be all about stroking the preacher Ovechkin’s ego.

One the other hand, if Crosby was a preacher, he would be into making the church better.  He would be highly talented, but he would use his gifts to make the members better around him.  Crosby is not a “hotdog” but is a humble player than deflects the praise to others.  His sermons might not be as flashy but he would seriously invest the time in preaching what the congregation needed.  He would participate in building a great church with the team of members.

Preachers should strive to be Crosby preachers.  Preachers that are more concerned with making those around them better than making themselves look better to those around them.  I would rather have congregational success than personal success.

  1. Sounds like a case of nationalism to me. Are you so caught up in your Canadian heritage that you can’t see the beauty of players like Ovechkin? God shows no favoritism Matthew.

    LOL…

But I do agree with the Crosby preacher.

  3. Mark Parker says:

Do you think Ovechkin would tweet as much as you, Matthew?

  4. Matthew says:

Collin, I am sure I see this without any special Canadian glasses, well maybe. Got to love the picture. And Mark, Ovechkin probably cannot work twitter.
