Deacons That See The Mission
A couple of weeks ago, we had a Deacon’s Seminar at the congregation. At this seminar, a lot of positive stuff happened. There was planning for the future as well as suggestions for improvement. It seemed that the mission of Christ was at the forefront of this time together. The deacons were motivated to move the congregation forward. What really impressed me happened later though. The deacons were reporting to the elders about the weekend together. The deacons had some great comments in this meeting, but what really stood out was the resounding understanding of the mission of God. A few of the deacons talked about how much they liked the congregation when it was smaller. Most people feel this way about churches. But the deacons all stated, “the size of the congregation has nothing to do with me and what I like best, what is most important is doing the great commission.” The deacons got the mission of God. A church will grow when it is seeking to be faithful to the great commission. It is not what we like best, but what must be done for Christ. The deacons understand this in the congregation which will help lead us to a great future in being faithful to God.
