Excited About D.Min Class

http://whitesandsschool.net/whitesands/thumb_cache/150x160____noimg.jpgI have received the syllabus for the class that I am taking this fall for the Doctor of Ministry program at Harding Graduate School. The class that I am taking is Wisdom and Moral Formation of the Church. The class seems especially interesting to me as we will study the integration of wisdom into one’s own life as well as the church. It is also a preaching class in which we will learn to preach from the wisdom genre. We will study the nature of enhancing the character development in the individual as well as the congregation. We will be studying some of the wisdom literature in the Bible. We will be developing a sermon series from a particular book as well. Everything about this class seems exciting. We are reading some interesting books that I never heard of before. I have ordered them and have received some of the books already. We are reading: Encountering Ecclesiastes: A Book for Our Time, Preaching Biblical Wisdom in a Self-Help Society, Steeped in the Holy: Preaching as Spiritual Practice, and Preaching What We Practice: Proclamation and Moral Discernment. We also have a bunch of articles to read too. It will be great to have a week in October of deep study into the text. I love having this specialization in preaching.

Unless something has changed, you will have Dr. Dave Bland as a teacher and therefore you will be very blessed. Dr. Bland is a great person to be around both in and out of the classroom. When I think of Christian hospitality, he and his wife Nancy always come to mind. Tell him I said hello.

In fact Rex, Dr. Bland is the teacher for this class. We have had some interaction and he seems wonderful. I will certainly mention you to him.
