Finalist For Best New Blogger
This morning I received some super great news that made me excited. A little shocked, but really happy. I got a note this morning telling me that I have been nomiated for “Best New Blogger.” This is going to be given at the Tulsa Soul Workshop. This is a huge blessing. In a way, I thought this was a joke, but I looked at the list and there I was. Anyway, here is the links so you can vote, you do not have to vote for me, just vote and express your opinion. Just to be mentioned is a huge honor to me. Whoever put my blog up, thank you so much. This is special to be part of such great company.
This was the note. “You’re a finalist for a Christian Blogger Award at this year’s Christian Bloggers Luncheon at the Tulsa Workshop. Please advertise this on your blog and encourage people to visit http://vote.theobloggers.org to cast a vote and http://register.theobloggers.org to register for the luncheon. Winners will be announced at the luncheon.”
Anyway, if you vote for mine, thank you for reading and thinking highly of my blog. Also, I need to give a ton of credit to my brother who built and helps me run this blog. Without him, this would not be a great ministry.

Matthew, I love your blog. Is there a way to do a blog on Face Book? I have not looked into it but would like to do something like this. I am going to go vote for you now!! Great Job!!
Congratulations Matthew! What an honor to be nominated for this award. You have some tough competition, just to be named with the rest of those nominated is great. Good Luck! And just in case you forgot to vote for yourself, you already have at least one vote. Ha. . .Ha!
you got my vote brother…
Matthew,
I had never heard of you until I observed on the list the others in which I found my name listed in the Best new category. I find myself up against two young scholars, quite published and knowledgeable. You have a great blog! Look forward to adding it to my reader and joining in on the discussion.
God Bless
Congrats!!!
Tracy, I linked this blog to facebook so people could read it on there. Also, you can post a note on facebook which is like a blog. Thank you Dale and Rex. Tucker, yea but you talk about truckers and every country boy would rather read this that what Todd and Myself write about.
You should feel proud in this regard. You have a great blog and you thoughts and ideas are very written. Good discussion and exchanging of ideas.
My only advice to you is be be caution with the fellowship of the Tulsa Workshop. As one who grew up in Tulsa, I can tell you first hand the kind of ridiculous teachings and worship practices have gone on out there. I can also tell you firsthand about how Tulsa Workshop has divided the Tulsa area churches and caused so much heartache within families. Although, I think Terry Rush and the Memorial Drive church is trying very hard to bridge and doing healing of past wounds. Be very careful with it comes to men like him. He has lead astray and encouraged many good young preachers, some have even left the church and are preahcing for denominations. Case in point, Lee Keele was a speaker last year on the program. Lee grew up in the church of CHrist, father gospel preacher (Bill Keele), brother is also a minister, uncles are preachers (Leonald Keele–Duncan) and Asa (past away) was a preacher. Anyway, Lee, got caught up in their kind of thinking, and naturally, took a course of action that many are doing, left the Church of Christ. He is now preahcing in Huchtison, Kansas for a Christian Church.
Of course, as you know for the past several years they have invited and openly accepted and fellowshipped leaders from the Christian Church (there are some speakers this year once again on the program). Many in the Tulsa area are quite confident that the day is soon coming when you will see all kinds of speakers from all different kinds of denominations on the program. They clearly have an agenda and goal out there. I say this myself again from first hand experience, conversations, etc. I am a younger gospel preacher and am striving to remainful and true and not be ultra conversation and make law where God has not made law, yet not be far liberal and give freedom where God has give freedom. I read often from various liberal and conservative blogs (Mike Cope, Phil Sanders, etc.) I am greatly concerned about the direction of the Lord’s church.
Actually, lately, I’ve been having a written debate on Jay Guin’s blog, oneinJesus. Check it out and add to the discussion if you want. I’m certainly in the miniority on my views there.
Anyway, sorry to have writing so much. Check out my blog sometime and stop by and leave a comment.
God bless you in your work,
Sincerely,
Robert Prater

Robert,
I am sure there were warnings issued about men like Thomas and Alexander Campbell as well as Barton Stone about their own rediculous teachings on unity. With all due respect, your warning is rediulous. What is so dangerous about trying to promote unity between two Christian fellowships? It is only through poor exegesis, a proof-texting approach to scripture (an abuse of scripture in and of itself), and a very questionable approach to hermeneutics that has allowed us to divide over an issue like A Cappella vs. Instrumental Worship. Had we lived in the first century, we would have been warning people about the Apostle Paul for daring to suggest that all food was clean.
I am proud to say that in Minnesota, the A Capella Churches of Christ and the Instrumental Churches of Chrst/Independent Christian Churches are looking to have a joint communion service in October to celebrate the 200th aniversary of Thomas Campbell’s Declaration. Neither side is trying to change the others views on instrumental worship (and believe me that their are strong convictions on either side). We have simply realized that that there is no biblical justification for such division.
Grace and peace,
Rex
Matthew, went to vote for you. We are rooting for you back in Waynesboro and Florence. You are missed but we are proud of what you did while with us and happy you are finding your path.
Stay in touch and follow what God teaches and how the Spirit leads you.
The Truth Is.

Rex, are they going to use the instrument in this joint communion service? If so, then there aren’t as strong convictions as you think. If they do not then maybe much good will come from it.
Sonny,
Good question. The answer is no, there will not be instrumental worship out of deference to those whose conscience will not allow them to worship with instruments. And even though I have no objections to instruments, I certainly would not expect those who do to give up their convictions. Sort of like, in Ithaca we had a woman who wore head-covering any time she was outside of her home (she grew up in a Mennonite church). Even though I am not convicted that such head covering is required, who am I to tell her she must disobey what she is convicted of.
Grace and peace,
Rex
