Happy Church or Sad Church
In America there are two types of churches, happy churches or sad churches. Sad churches are those congregations that work hard, accomplish services, and burn everyone out. Because in sad church the members are motivated through guilt to perform “good works.” The minister arises in the pulpit to plead with the congregation for great works. The loving Christians get serious and put out some more effort. The characteristic of sad church is that there is working but not according to talents or gifts (Rom. 12:4-10). People are serving the Lord but not reaping the blessings that flow from service. But in happy church, the members are not stressed, or guilt-ed into serving. Each member has found his or her niche in the body. Service is not a pain but a pleasure because the Christians was made for that role by God. Happy church is growing because new people coming in are first encouraged to find their spiritual gift. There is no guilt trips because people who love serving through their gift are fulfilled not drained. Christians in happy church love serving, and Christians in sad church see serving as a burden. Remember, use your gift and not your guilt to serve the Lord.
