Musings on Spiritual Matters

Helping Your Church Grow

So as a minister, what can you do to help your congregation grow?  This is a good question.  What are some practical stuff that you can do within the congregation to help the congregation reach more souls for Christ?  If you are not doing this as a minister, you will be missing out on one of the most important roles in this world.  But sometimes ministers are not trained to help churches grow, but mostly trained to help churches study.  Of course, this is good as well, but there are elements that a minister must help with for congregations to reach one’s full potential.  The Lord desires all people to be saved.  Also, people will say that one’s particular congregation is the best but will not invite people into it to experience the wonderful blessing of the church.  You cannot say that you have the best congregation and not have it grow.  It would be like having a great gift and not sharing it.  So what can a minister do?

1. Have a consistent message.  You will be known for something, you will not be able to help it.  So use this reputation wisely.  You might be the funny minister, or the smart minister, or the boring minister or the office minister, whatever, but make sure you have the message of outreach as a preacher.   You are the champion of this.  So preach it.  I doubt that anyone in Castle Rock does not know what my theme is.  We must be creating sent disciples for Christ.  Sing, shout, proclaim, preach, the message of missional.

2. Model Mission.  You must be passionate about the mission.  If you are not, the congregation will follow your lead.  Get fired up, do the work, serve the church, be in the community, allow the church to see you practicing this lifestyle.  It will take time, but it will be worth it.

3. Have a team.  At Castle Rock, I have a missional team, and these people are the best.  In this team, it is so nice to know they are working with me toward our goals.  I also have partners in the congregation, especially my army boys.  These guys are awesome.  You give them a task, and it is done to perfection.  My weakness is organization, these guys can organize in a dream.

People we are on the greatest mission on earth.  Let us be about the work of seeking and saving the lost.
