Missional Success
While we were gone in China, the church was involved in some great missional work in the community. The first task was to improve the landscaping of a local business that the teenage class adopted. The teens did a prayer walk through the town, and picked a Flower shop to adopt. I approached the owner with the odd idea that we were to help them in anyway that we could. We gave her a week to ponder the thought, and I went back to visit her. She wanted us to landscape the front of her building, which we did. From the pictures, it was a beautiful scene. A ton of teens working hard to share the love of Jesus to someone in this town. The teens totally redid this business, and made it look great. We are attempting to create a presence for Christ in this town. Therefore, we are looking for ways to partner with the Lord in His work. We feel that the Lord opened a wonderful door for this congregation to bless someone around us. The congregation was not finished just with this work, but on Saturday the congregation participated in the local parade downtown. The church passed out water bottles, and we had the singing group Fortress, which is a group of guys from Castle Rock and a couple of other local congregations singing on a truck. It was a huge hit, as these are our “boy band”. We had some guests this pass week from this time of being in the city. It is really exciting to see the missional focus in the congregation. We are having baptisms, bible studies, and a positive optimism about the work of God on earth. Church is always best when it is focused on mission and not on itself.
