Open Question Night with Elders
At the Castle Rock Congregation, we believe in the process of communication. People are wanting to have opportunities to understand the mission, vision, and focus of the congregation. Having one on one time with an eldership is difficult because of all the needs and the people, but we do not want people to feel neglected, so we are having a Sunday evening on August 23rd a open question session with the eldership. The elders will be up front to answer various questions from the congregation. This will help people to understand the agenda and the direction of the congregation. People wonder what the elders are thinking and dreaming and we want to share with people the goals of the eldership. People might ask questions concerning doctrinal direction, mission direction, or ministry direction, but the key is that people will have a clearer picture of the hearts and minds of the eldership. At Castle Rock, we want to be a open congregation. This means that there is transparency with the leadership team. This is going to be a habit for the congregation and might be a good habit for churches across America.

Has anyone ever tried this before?
We did in regards to hiring a new preacher. It boiled up a little bit with emotion as people didn’t like some of what was said. I think if there are certain guidelines established and no one gets on a soap box, it can be good. Some things though are better left to personal discussion with those involved.
Matthew, our congregation has a Vision Night once a year which sounds similar. It works wonderfully. I can send you a CD of ours if you are interested.
Yes, I would Wendy. Thank You.
