Musings on Spiritual Matters

Organization of Deacons

Have you ever had a deacon of two that did nothing?  He was more of a figurehead deacon.  Have you ever had a deacon that was not that talented while having a deacon that was a superstar worker in the church?  Probably not, I am sure.  If you have, how did you organize these men?  It seems that every church is going to have a deacon or so that are not passionate about the mission of Christ.  You are going to have deacons that have a stronger skillset than others.  This is not a reflection on the particular deacons since some men have one talent and some have ten talents.  The key is that each deacon should be working according to his ability.  Here is the helper today.  Sometimes we might have deacons in the wrong areas of service.  If a congregation is going to grow, you have to get the right people on the bus in the right places.  If you have a ministry that is responsible for 10% growth a year and another ministry that is responsible for 30% growth a year, where do you put your ten talent deacon.  The 10% percent might be the harder ministry so you need a stronger leader, right.  No, put the ten talent guy in the work that is producing the most growth for Christ.  You might be shocked to see the 30% increase to 50%.  It seems that sometimes we put the best people in the works that produce the lest results.
