Read “Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes”

Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes: Cultural Studies in the GospelsThis book deals with the influence of cultural studies on the New Testament text. It was refreshing to read a book about Jesus from a scholarly point of view without the author constantly questioning the miracle accounts and the divinity of Jesus. The author does a superb job in informing the reader of the cultural background of the text. The text seems to come alive as the scenes in the Gospels are brought to life through the culture interaction. The accounts in the gospel are powerful as Jesus is seen in his original context. It is really amazing how the 21st century church has read some of the parables and stories about Jesus. A lot of times the modern reader has missed the point of the teaching because of looking at Jesus through modern eyes. The author deals with the birth story, the beatitudes, the Lord’s Prayers, dynamic stories, Jesus and women, and the parables. The book is a great read, not a short read (426 pages). The book will give you a renewed respect and love for Jesus Christ. He was truly the master teacher, the Son of God, and warrior for the downcast and trodden. If you are looking to see your Master as he was, and not how we have made him, this is a great book.

  1. Matthew says:

This is one of the best books ever about Jesus that I have read.

  2. Sounds really interesting Matthew. A couple of good books I’ve read about Jesus’ life are The Jesus I Never Knew by Phillip Yancy; Jesus: The Greatest Life of All by Charles Swindoll; and Walk With Me by Prentice Meador and Bob Chisolm. Two weddings in one day? 426 pages? Wow, that’s pretty long.
BTW, I read the post before it. I’ve seen 27 Dresses. Crazy movie but pretty funny too. Two weddings in one day? Wow. That’s pretty crazy.
And happy belated birthday to your wife. God bless. Grace and Peace.

  3. Matthew says:

Thank you Zack, I think I will check out Meador’s book.
