Reflections on A Year With Castle Rock

http://www.visitusa.com/colorado/images/coppermountainpic.jpgThe weekend of November 9th, of 2008, the Morine family moved to Castle Rock to work with the Castle Rock Church of Christ.  This was a huge transition for us.  A new location and a new work would surely surprise and maybe even disappoint.  We were moving from Waynesboro, TN which was a successful work of 5 years.  The congregation grew during this time and we had a perfect working relationship with the elders.  We were leaving this behind to serve the Lord in this new location.  The congregation seemed like a great work, but you never know what the everyday functioning is going to look like.  The promises and impresses from the dating stage might be radically different than the marriage.  But in faith, we took the leap of faith.  We left Waynesboro for the opportunity to expand the Kingdom of God in more of a mission area.

It was hard to imagine how much we would like this move.  Charity made the transition well, Gabrielle had the most difficulty as she missed her friend Alex and her home.  People told us that she would not even care, this was not the case.  Noah, he did not know what was happening.

Some of the first reactions was that we were welcomed perfectly.  There were presents in the new house we purchased.  There were members attending to our beginning needs.  We were not an afterthought to this congregation.  The elders during this past year have been awesome.  It was a transition because the eldership is so sensitive to my needs.  These guys are about serving the minister and his family.  The congregation has embraced us and loved us.  Looking back, I have no bad memories from people being mean to me and my family.  But I do not desire to stay in Castle Rock because of how well we are treated.  I want to stay because the work is so much.  There is so much opportunity for the congregation to have an impact for Christ in this town and state.  I want to stay because of the mission of God.

The church as been great, and the culture here is super.  I love mountain climbing and attending hockey games.  I love working out and feeling wild in this world.  I really hope to stay in Castle Rock a long time.  God has been behind this move.  We hated leaving Waynesboro, but we feel that God was wanting us to continue his work in Colorado.  It is all about the Lord’s Will.

  1. Matthew says:

I am also going to do a post about how hard it was to leave Waynesboro and how great it was there. I am just reflecting on this transition in life.

  2. K. Rex Butts says:

I am sure they feel blessed to have you in Castle Rock.

    Grace and peace,

  3. Bob Johannes says:

Leaving is always hard but one must go where he can be of best use and contribute to the overall growth, It’s difficult for the flock because they get attached. This makes each repetitive change harder to deal with. Using the strength God gave us helps cope with the emotions and we must remember to continue to use all the other tools and gifts he has given us. Sometimes we have poor insight and pray for the tools we already have. The happiness your family is experiencing and the splendor of the enviornment is a blessing we all would like. P.S. thanks for the thank-you card, I hope you also enjoyed the intermittent racing, Bob.
