Reflections on Class
Friday was the last day of class for the Doctorate of Ministry course “How the Nature of the Church Affects Strategies for Ministry.” This class was taught by Dr. Paul Borden. We called him Paul, his choice. He was an amazing teacher. He had the ability to hold your attention all day which is a difficult task for an intensive course. He would share ideas but always tell stories. The stories were amazing. He was a great speaker and communicator. As for the material of the class, it was interesting and helpful. He mostly would begin with looking at the theology behind the idea or the principle, then move to the practical way to establish it in a local congregation. It was a course in being an effective minister and leader in a congregation. It was probably the best class I had on church growth ever. It was not just theory but advice from a true church grower. A lot of classes on church growth are taught by Ph.D’s in church growth, but these people have never grown a church. He has and understands the pain that comes with the mission. I certainly feel like a better minister for taking this class. I hope to write some blog posts concerning some of the most helpful material that I learned.
