Review of “The Ledge”
It is always interesting how God works. I was reading this book about climbing Mount Rainier, and dreaming of the day that it would happen. It is a 14,000 foot mountain, which is not hard for me, but technically, Mt. Rainier is a lot more difficult. It has snow cover all year round. But in my mind, it is doable. While I was reading the book a friend of mine asked me to be on a program right next to the mountain, and then this week I had another invitation to speak in the area, just about 3 hours away. In my mind, God is providing the opportunity to climb this peak, which would be awesome. Well, onto the book. I got this book for free from the Amazon Vine program, and really I was thinking it was going to be a poorly written account of a journey on the hill. But it was a riveting story of two climbers falling, and one dying, and one fighting for his life. But it was more than a tale of survival, it was a tale of emotions, life, and pain. It was one of those adventure books that you just sit at the end, and mediate on the journey. It was well written, and really entertaining. There were numerous mentions of Colorado, and even a mutual friend named Scott Anderson who I met once at a party. He climbed all of the 14ers in Colorado, and even some of the biggest and hardest mountains in the world. He is a true mountaineer. This is a book that really transcends the adventure literature, it is a book that would be interesting to everyone. So now that the book is finished, I have one more goal, climb this peak.
