Musings on Spiritual Matters

SYD in the City of Castle Rock

216One of our elders at the Castle Rock congregation directs a singing ministry called SYD which means the Singing Youth of Denver.  It is a group of teens from the front range churches of Christ.  There are a ton of kids in this group.  SYD does some excellent work through this region and all over the churches of Christ.  But one of the best things that this team does is sing for those who need the love of God and those who need to know Christ.  This evening SYD will be singing at the Castle Rock Outlet mall.  This is just another example of the missional focus of our leaders and our congregation.  It is great that one of our elders is leading these young people with a missional focus.  He is teaching them that service to God has the important element of creating a presence for Christ in the community.  A lot of teen focused ministry is about serving the young people, but SYD is intentional about allowing the young people to serve others.  This dynamic is going to have a powerful effect on the churches in this region as well as the lives of these teens.  I am so thankful for this elder and his work, and most important all the young people that are being missional in this town.

In the Detroit area we have the Metro Detroit Youth Chorus which has been in existance since the early 1960′s. Two of my children have been a part of the Chorus. Like SYD they sing all over but each year they go on tour which is very special. My wife is an alumni but we will not say what years she was in the chorus.
