The Great Missional Weekend
Last weekend was one of the busiest weekends ever. It was also one of the best too. There were countless people involved in making this weekend special. The time was truly a vertical slice within the church. Young and old participated together in evangelism, fellowship, and service.
The weekend was kicked off with a Friday night of parade preparation. A group of people met in the evening to construct a float for the Douglas County Parade. The float was finished up in the morning and taken to the entry point for the parade. During the parade, members of the congregation passed out over 1000 water bottles and 1500 cards advertising the Watermelon Olympics. The float looked excellent.
Saturday evening was another fun time of drafting a fantasy football team. Of course, I was there to draft a winning team (though each year I end up coming in tenth to twelfth place). It was a blast with great fellowship and food. There are always numerous guys who love doing this each year and it helps the men to stay closer to one another. Each year you have to sign up early because this is so popular in the congregation.
On Sunday morning we broke break together in worship. After the worship time, everyone quickly headed for home to prepare for the “First Ever Watermelon Olympics.” This was a huge success. We had numerous guests from the community. Of course many people from the congregation also came to participate. The kids most importantly had a blast. There was a huge water fight to cap off the day. There were numerous fun stations reaching from watermelon eating contest to the popular water balloon throwing contest. You could tell by the faces of the kids that this was an awesome time. We also enjoyed making some new friends from the community.
To cap off this super missional weekend, we celebrated with style with “Sing for Your Supper.” This was a special time because the Tri-Lakes congregation joined us. One thing was evident; we have some talented future song leaders in this congregation. It was great seeing our teens leading, as well as some of the younger men stepping forward to lead. The food was excellent and the fellowship was superb.
This was one homerun weekend. Vertical slice, fellowship, missional, fun, service, and hopefully a future fantasy trophy for me, these are all ways to describe this great time together.
