The Winners and Losers–ME

http://vgtribune.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/new_blogger_approaching-500x370.pngThis weekend I felt like a winner and a loser.  The sad news is that I am not the top new blogger for the year.  I guess I was just happy to be even mentioned.  Thank you to everyone who voted for me, not a lot of people, but some people did.  Thank you.  As a second place prize, I had a comment from Mike Cope over the weekend.  He is one of the most well known names in the churches of Christ.  It always amazes me of some of the people who end up reading this blog.  It is really a huge honor for some of the “big boys” to be reading this “little boy’s” blog.  Paris Hilton also left a comment before, but I am a little suspect of the truth of this.

The best thing that happened over the weekend was the great start to the vision process of the Castle Rock congregation.  We had a huge turn out from the congregation of 231 people.  This is a great number and our attendance has been shooting up for months now.  We started in November with 180 average and now we are hitting the 230′s.  It is amazing the pace of growth in the congregation.  We had a great meal with prizes and everything.  People are excited about the work and the possibilities within the congregation.

I am always amazed at the influence I am able to have in the church.  Coming from a different country, having no background or family in the churches of Christ, usually means that few people even know you exist.  I am thankful for Christ who continues to open doors of ministry for me.  It is amazing what God can do with an uneducated heathen from Canada.

I guess the winner, won by one vote. My only regret was that I was not in Tulsa for the weekend. I was also sick for some of it. But I did get to see the Haggards and the Hollis who are great friends too.

Congrats anyway Matthew! You faced stiff competition against people who already had a name established in the brotherhood and to even be nominated is awesome. Is there somewhere you can go to view the winners?

Glad to hear things at Castle Rock are continuing to move up. Keep up the great work.

  3. I still think your blog is a winner ;)

  4. John Dobbs says:

Matthew, I was hoping to meet you. I love your blog. I mentioned it as a good example of brevity and depth at the same time…in my blogging class at the workshop. You are a winner brother! I just wish I could read as fast as you!

  5. Matthew says:

Thank you John. I really wanted to meet you too. I was so looking forward to being there, but I got sick with the flu and did not want to go anywhere. Thank you for the comments, you are the blog king though.

  6. Wendy says:

Matthew, you are indeed a winner! Your blog is awesome.

  7. Dale says:

When I saw this title I thought it was going to be about March Madness. Sorry you didn’t win. Maybe next year.

  8. James Jones says:

“Uneducated heathen from Canada” — I love it!!!

Sadly, the potential we all have is sometimes belittled UNTIL we become ‘profitable’ members of the church. Can you imagine the evangelism fervor we would possess if we looked at people’s potential instead of their pitfalls???

  9. Tucker says:

    Matthew,
Trust me, I thought you were the one who won by one vote! You are very much deserving and I am the one truly honored to be listed with you. I am a big fan of your blog and I know many others kept asking me if I had seen you at Tulsa! Sorry you were sick but, I know you are not very far away and I may just make a trip to see you the next time I am that way. Us fellow blog heathens can still be brethen can’t we?
