Yearly Teen Hike
Thankfully, I am not a youth minister. Most days I feel so bad for youth ministers. The model of hiring some guy out of college to run the youth group. Poor kid, trying to please parents who are hyper-sensitive about everything. I believe youth ministers have the hardest roles in the church. Well, about once or twice a year, I go into youth minister role. Fortunately, this year I have a intern who helps me in this work. But tomorrow, I will be leading the teen hike on a 14er. We will be camping out, doing some devotional time, and mostly challenging ourselves in the wild. It always seems to go well. Fortunately one of my elders is coming, which is always great, as being a youth minister is the one of the many things I am terrible at, well even being bad at a one night retreat. This year we are hiking Mt. Sherman, it is one of the easier 14ers in Colorado as last year I almost killed some of the youth for pushing them too hard in hiking. It is a safe hike up on solid ground. As much as I hate the logistics of these event, I do love the memories and the time together with the young people. It seems to provide great memories for the teens. It pushes our young people outside of the box, and it is good to see a minister not just sitting in an office, though I need some more office time to get all my work done. You talk with these kids, and chat about real stuff. These young people feel good about themselves, they accomplished something more than beating a video game. So wish us blessings, hopefully we will all return healthy.

That is awesome! There’s nothing quite like a spiritually focused trip up a mountain, with fellow Christians, to give you a new perspective on life. Have a fantastic trip!
And, as a youth minister, I had to laugh-out-loud at your first sentence, “Thankfully, I am not a youth minister.”
Thanks for all you do, brother!
Thank you for the kind comments.
Matthew, I love this taking the boys and growing them. How are the girls stretched and challenged?
As for the ladies, I believe they were encouraged as well, and challenged, well yes, putting up with the guys is hard enough.
