Halt to the Hike
My friend Dale Sadler and I planned on engaging in a long six hour hike today in the Mountains of East Tennessee. We have been planning this trip for months. Yesterday, all the preparations were made, there was the backpack, trail mix, and army pants, all ready for the earthly adventure. At five in the morning, the alarm went off, and by 5:20am, I was on my way. About 25 minutes into the trip, the car started to slow down. Push on the petal but the car did not push off. Slowly the car came to a halt and so did the trip. My car by no means is new, but it has not broken down in years. There I was, guiding my car into a stranger’s driveway, hoping that the problem was not serious. Too much time and energy was invested in this trip, without reaping the sense of completion. The hike was even mentioned in the opinion section of the Tennessean, the statewide Newspaper. It was a famous trip already. Maybe this was deliverance from the Lord, since Charity is due with our second child any time now, who knows, but I wanted to take this last adventure before baby season officially started. So here I am, overcoming the computer instead of the great wilderness: No mountain lions or bears for me.

That sure is something I am home in front of the computer now because our car broke down in Dartmouth today on the way to work and I was guiding it down a side street. $80 dollar tow bill and it is waiting to get fixed. They need a car that will tell you before you go anywhere if is going to break.
That’s too bad Matthew! You’re not the only one with car problems today!
The car busted while Brent was driving to work today and now it’s in the shop…hopefully ours isn’t too expensive either!
What a odd turn of events, brother and I both broke down in our cars on the same day. It was about the same time too.
We’ll give it a try again later Matthew. All morning long that Thursday I felt so disappointed that we weren’t going hiking but then I thought, “Hey, at least I’m feeling disappointed in a car that works.” Ha!
I really like Dale’s positive, humorous outlook on the problems! Hopefully the fixes weren’t too expensive and the hike will be even more enjoyable once you’re able to go.
